In this article, we are going to study what are the advantages and disadvantages of stepper motor over servo motor.

Before going through this article, for further details, you can read the comparison of stepper motor and servo motor.

Let’s study,

Advantages (or Pros) of Stepper Motor

  1. The construction of the stepper motor is simple compared to the servo motor.
  2. The stepper motor has good flexibility and reliability.
  3. One of the best features of the stepper motor is to easily control the speed and precise position. So, for positional or motion control applications, it is widely used.
  4. The stepper motor is cheap. And easily gets in the market.
  5. Mostly it is very beneficial that produces high torque at low speed.
  6. It consumes low power.
  7. Low maintenance is required for the stepper motor.
  8. Also, it has a low maintenance cost.
  9. The stepper motor works for the open-loop control system.

Disadvantages (or Cons) of Stepper Motor

  1. The speed of the stepper motor (approximately 1500 RPM) is less than the servo motor.
  2. The stepper motor provides low efficiency.
  3. The accuracy of the stepper motor is very low.
  4. This motor can not rotate at high speed.
  5. More noise and vibration are produced.

These are the basic pros and cons of stepper motors over servo motors. If you have any queries or points to add, please below the comment.
