We all know, the thermal power plant is one of the crucial power-generating sources. This power station has good power efficiency and is economical as compared to the other stations.
India’s thermal power station comes with a more than 60% power generating capacity. And for more power generation, 80% of the thermal power stations are established on coal.
There are different thermal power stations installed with different power generation capacities in India.
Some of them are operated by the central government of India, also called as National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). NTPC is one of the top Indian PSU companies. And some of them are operated by private companies.
In this article, I am listing the top 10 biggest thermal power stations in India with some details.
If you are preparing for competitive exams (like as MPSC, UPSC, etc) and interviews, many times questions are asked about thermal power plants. Knowing about them will help you crack exams.
Let’s dive in.
Which is the First Thermal Power Plant in India?
Hussain Sagar Thermal Power Station is India’s first thermal power plant which is built-in 1920.
It was placed in Hyderabad, Telangana on the banks of Hussain Sagar. It was operated by the Hyderabad state electricity department.
Power Generation Capacity: Hussain Sagar Thermal Power Station was used to generate 22.5 MW of power on the consumption of about 200 tons of coal per day.
Now, this power station is part of the history as this is no longer operating.
